Russia forms new brigade to support its military in Kharkiv region
Russia has begun forming a new brigade to support its Sever group operating in the Kharkiv region, according to Vitalii Sarantsev, a spokesperson for the Kharkiv operational and tactical group of troops.
The formation of a new volunteer brigade called Bars began following the order of the Minister of Defense of Russia on August 21, 2024, and the instructions of the Chief of the General Staff on August 22, 2024.
The brigade will consist of three separate units: Bars-Bryansk, Bars-Kursk, and Bars-Belgorod, with a total strength of 4,921 soldiers. The main task of the newly created unit will be to support the Sever group of troops.
Some experts believe that the formation of volunteer units in the Russian army is a hidden form of mobilization. Such units often recruit people from poor regions or foreign nationals who do not always have the necessary combat experience.
Kharkiv sector
Earlier, the Kharkiv operational and tactical group of troops reported that the situation in the Kharkiv sector remains extremely tense. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to repel Russian attacks, launch counterattacks, and take measures to strengthen their defensive positions.
Recently, the deputy commander of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, Maksym Zhorin, said that the soldiers of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade had successfully conducted a counterattack in the Kharkiv region.
The Brigade's press service confirmed that the 3rd Assault Brigade had advanced almost two square kilometers into the frontline. The Ukrainian military repelled Russia's attack from the direction of Makiivka, removing the threat from other important areas of the front.
