The Kremlin stated that it is important for them to assess the results of the work of the US and Ukrainian delegations following the Russia–US consultations in Moscow, according to Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

Commenting on the negotiation process, Peskov said that substantial work was carried out in Moscow during the meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"And then Witkoff and Kushner worked based on the results achieved in Moscow and already coordinated with the Ukrainian negotiating delegation led by Umerov (Secretary of Ukraine’s NSDC Rustem Umerov – ed.). Now it is important for us to understand the outcomes of this work," Peskov said.

On December 2, a meeting took place in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, which was also attended by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev. The meeting lasted nearly five hours.

After discussions with the American delegation, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said that the sides “have not yet reached compromises” regarding the war in Ukraine.

After this, Trump’s negotiators held several meetings with the Ukrainian delegation.

On December 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a two-hour phone call with Witkoff and Kushner.

According to Axios sources, the sides discussed territories and security guarantees. On the latter issue, an agreement was reportedly largely reached.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Trump expressed disappointment that the Ukrainian leader has not yet read the new US peace plan draft.
