The situation on the border with Sumy remains difficult. Evacuation continues, and the situation on the line of contact with Russian troops is constantly changing, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

"As of this morning (May 30, ed.), Russians are attempting to carry out offensive operations. The situation is complicated, as is usually the case during Russia's actions. At the same time, I am in constant communication with the military command," he said.

According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, appropriate measures are currently being taken to implement evacuation measures.

"Therefore, despite the complexity, the situation remains under the control of our armed forces," Hryhorov said.

When asked how many settlements in the Sumy region are currently under Russian control, he was unable to answer and explained why.

"The front line is flexible. And we have constant movements, as well as successes of our Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, I cannot provide such information at this time. We can only talk about a certain gray zone where the most active and combat operations are taking place," the head of the Regional Military Administration noted.

Situation Sumy region' border

On May 27, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that most Russian troops are currently concentrated in the Kursk direction. Their task is to displace Ukrainian forces and prepare for a possible offensive on the Sumy region.

The next day, Germany's Spiegel reported that Zelenskyy was allegedly returning urgently from Germany due to the threat of a Russian offensive in the Sumy region. However, this information was refuted by a source at RBC-Ukraine.

In addition, the Spiegel statement was denied by presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn, who called on journalists to check the facts more carefully.

At the same time, according to the State Border Service of Ukraine, as of May 29, Russia had been building up forces in the Kursk region for several months and currently has enough forces for an offensive in the Sumy region.
