Despite declaring a ceasefire ahead of May 9, Russia has continued striking Ukraine. Nearly 100 guided aerial bombs have been dropped on the Sumy region alone since the start of the day, Yurii Ihnat, head of communications for the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said.

"Putin’s parade ceasefire began at midnight with enemy tactical aviation bombing Sumy," Ihnat said.

He noted that although Russian forces did not launch Shahed drones overnight, they continued to carry out strikes using guided aerial bombs.

"Starting around 2:30 a.m., guided bomb raids on the Sumy region began. As of now, nearly 100 guided bombs have hit this region alone since 2:30 a.m.," he added.

Ihnat also warned that the threat of air-dropped weapons remains high in Ukraine’s south and east.

"A large number of enemy drones are also operating along the southern front line near the Dnipro River. The enemy keeps them there for a reason. These drones provide aerial reconnaissance data to coordinate strikes from ground systems, artillery, and more," Ihnat explained.

Russia’s ceasefires

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced another so-called humanitarian ceasefire from May 8 to 11.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine would only support a ceasefire if Russia is ready to take mirror steps.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first case of such a ceasefire proposed by Moscow and then violated by Russian forces. A similar situation occurred during the so-called Easter ceasefire, which Putin suggested, only for Russian troops to later shell Ukraine’s border areas.

Earlier today, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that despite Putin’s declared ceasefire, nearly 120 combat engagements have taken place on the front line since the start of the day.
