A FAB-500 aerial bomb fell on Belgorod a few days ago, reportedly dropped by a Russian bomber, ASTRA reports.

On January 21, the governor of Belgorod region wrote that a "munition crater" had been discovered on Gubkin Street in Belgorod, but he did not specify how it appeared.

ASTRA's sources in Belgorod’s emergency services said that a half-ton bomb had hit the city. The bomb did not explode but created a crater 20 meters deep in the ground. It fell near a residential building.

Following the incident, about 1,600 people from three nearby apartment buildings were evacuated, including 272 children. Of these, 43 residents were sent to a temporary shelter, while the rest went to relatives.

A bomb disposal team worked at the site, and the police blocked traffic in the area. The bomb was eventually removed and taken to a local testing range for destruction.

Russia drops bombs on the Belgorod region

Earlier, in November last year, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) released an intercepted conversation with a resident.

She claimed that Russian bombers had dropped eight guided bombs on the Belgorod region over 11 days.

The HUR explained that due to technical malfunctions, some bombs fail to reach their targets in Ukraine and instead fall on populated areas in Russia’s border districts.

According to ASTRA, from January to September last year, Russian forces dropped over a hundred guided bombs on their own territory and on temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine.
