Russia refuses to return its disabled soldiers who have been captured by Ukraine. The aggressor even ignores offers to transfer the prisoners without exchange, states Iryna Krynina, a representative of the Ukrainian public movement Khochu znaity (I want to find) in an interview with Mozhem obyasnit.

She noted that Ukraine is not demanding a prisoner exchange for the return of severely injured Russian soldiers. All that is needed is a formal request from Moscow. However, despite this, Russia has shown no interest in retrieving them from captivity.

Krynina shared the stories of two Russian soldiers who were captured by Ukraine. One of them, Ivan Semenov, a 39-year-old resident of the Oryol region who lost his right arm in the war, has been in captivity since April. The other is Tolib Egamberdiyev, a Tajikistani national who signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and was captured on March 29. Egamberdiyev has a severe ankle fracture that is healing poorly.

In late July, Krynina arranged a video call between the two captives and Oryol Governor Andrey Klichkov. The captives urged the official to help facilitate their return home. In response, Klichkov promised to "look into what can be done" and then ended the call.

Forty days after this conversation, the disabled soldiers remain in Ukrainian captivity.

Навіть без обміну. Росія не хоче забирати з українського полону військових-інвалідів

What preceded

Previously, prisoners of war from Luhansk and Donetsk regions who agreed to fight on Russia's side complained that they were not being returned.

They recorded a video appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to facilitate their return as part of a prisoner exchange.
