Russia does not have all advantages in war against Ukraine - Pentagon chief
Russia does not have all the advantages in the war against Ukraine as it seems. The Kremlin is facing an increasing number of challenges that will make it difficult to record its successes, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin says.
He emphasized that even if the Russians manage to get everything out of the war in Ukraine, it will cost them dearly in the future.
“There’s a thought that Russia has the ultimate hand here and it has every advantage. It has some advantages, but it doesn’t completely dominate this equation here. And if it gets what it wants, it will cost them in the future,” said Austin, who will soon leave the Pentagon.
He noted that this consideration should be taken into account by Donald Trump's team in any attempts to establish a ceasefire.
Austin added that the Russians also face challenges, so they have turned to North Korea and Iran for weapons and people. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to build up its capabilities.
The Pentagon chief noted that the occupation of large areas of Ukraine would require significant resources from Russia even in the event of a ceasefire.
Ramstein meeting
Today, January 9, the 25th meeting of Ukraine's allies will take place in Germany. It will be the last time that representatives of the Joe Biden administration will attend a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense.
Poland has already stated that this may be the last meeting in this format, as the Ramstein format may change after the change of power in the United States.
Western media report that the United States has prepared a significant aid package for Ukraine, which will be announced within the framework of Ramstein.
