Russia continues offensive in Donetsk region, threatening key Ukrainian cities
Russian ground troops continue offensive operations in various parts of the frontline, making tactical gains, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
The main focus of Russian troops is in the central part of the Donetsk region, where recent successes have brought the city of Pokrovsk about 16 km from the current front line.
Pokrovsk is a key logistical hub supporting Ukrainian operations in the region.
In addition, Russia continues to strengthen its position in the disputed town of New York, which threatens the neighboring town of Toretsk.
UK Ministry of Defense believes that Russian troops continue to rely on costly infantry offensives to gradually advance into Ukrainian territory.
Situation at front
In recent months, Russian occupation forces have intensified their attacks on the frontline. In May, the Russian army launched a second offensive in the north of Kharkiv region, but the invaders failed to advance to Kharkiv, and the fighting in this direction continues.
Russia is concentrating its main efforts in eastern Ukraine, especially in the Donetsk region. The heaviest fighting is taking place in the Pokrovsk sector, where 29 clashes took place over the past day.
In addition, Russia continues to insist on capturing the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.
