Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed that only military facilities were struck during the overnight attack on Kyiv. In reality, the missiles hit residential buildings, and the attack killed at least 14 people, according to a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

What Russia said

The Russian ministry claimed that only military-industrial facilities were allegedly struck during the night of July 6. It said the targets included industrial enterprises, fuel depots, airfields, and factories producing drones and Neptune missiles.

"Infrastructure at military airfields in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions has been damaged," the statement said.

The Russian ministry's statement makes no mention of residential buildings. In reality, missiles hit at least two residential buildings in Kyiv overnight, and around 30 apartment buildings were damaged.

What is known about the July 6 attack on Kyiv

Overall, at least 14 people were killed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, while nearly 60 others were injured.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia continues to destroy residential buildings with impunity while missiles for Patriot air defense systems remain in allies' stockpiles.

He is calling on the NATO summit in Ankara to make decisions that will genuinely protect Ukraine's skies.

Following the overnight attack, the number of people killed and injured in the capital and the surrounding region continued to rise. The Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts of Kyiv suffered the heaviest damage, while residents in Vyshneve are still being evacuated due to the risk of a secondary detonation.

During the attack, Ukraine's air defense forces did not intercept any ballistic missiles. The reason was a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems.

It also became known the previous day that all ballistic missiles and Zircon missiles penetrated Ukraine's air defenses, while the interception rate for cruise missiles was nearly 100%.
