Russia calls ceasefire in war against Ukraine 'unrealistic' at UN

Russia believes that at this stage it is "unrealistic" to talk about a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine. Moscow has again accused Ukraine of allegedly violating the moratorium on strikes against the energy sector, the Russian media reports, citing Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia.
"We had an attempt at a limited ceasefire concerning energy infrastructure facilities, which was not observed by the Ukrainian side. Under the current circumstances, talking about a ceasefire is simply unrealistic at this stage," the Russian ambassador stated.
Nebenzia also accused the West of having "failed to pressure Kyiv" into observing the so-called energy truce. Russia's permanent representative to the UN once again accused Ukraine of constantly violating the ceasefire.
Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
During negotiations with the American side in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to accept a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. This proposal was also communicated to Russia.
Subsequently, Ukraine and Russia agreed to mutually halt strikes against energy infrastructure. However, Moscow continues to violate the energy truce.
Thus, in particular, on April 17, Russia attacked a DTEK production site in the Dnipropetrovsk region with drones. As a result, buildings and equipment were damaged.
Recently, US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding a ceasefire. According to Trump, he expects a response from Russia this week.
According to Bloomberg, US officials at a meeting with Europeans in Paris on April 17 noted that they want to achieve a complete ceasefire in Ukraine within the next few weeks.
