Russia brazenly justifies deadly strikes on Ukraine, warns of more to come

Russia justifies its massive attacks against Ukraine by the alleged threat of “terrorist attacks and provocations," according to the Russian defense ministry.
“The Russian armed forces will continue to strike in response to any terrorist attacks and provocations by the Kyiv regime,” the Russian defense ministry said.
The Russian command said that Kyiv, with the support of some European countries, had taken a number of provocative steps to disrupt the talks, which were allegedly initiated by Russia.
The Russians traditionally claim that they only strike at military facilities and the military-industrial complex in Ukraine.
Russia-Ukraine talks in Türkiye
On May 16, the first direct talks between representatives of Ukraine and Russia in several years took place in Türkiye. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also arrived in the country intending to meet personally with Vladimir Putin, but the latter ignored the initiative to start a dialogue.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, while the Russian delegation was headed by Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky.
As a result of the talks, the parties agreed on a large exchange of prisoners in the 1,000-for-1,000 format. The swap took place last weekend in three stages.
Since May 16, Russia has been delaying any decisions on the ceasefire. Moreover, yesterday, Vladimir Putin complained that Russia is being blamed for the invasion of Ukraine.
Massive attacks against Ukraine
Last weekend, the Russian military launched three massive combined attacks on the territory of Ukraine. On the night of May 26, the aggressor fired cruise missiles from Tu-95MS bombers and launched more than 300 Shahed drones.
