In the occupied territories of Ukraine, access to Western social networks and independent media is systematically restricted. Experts note that the main tool of censorship has become the TSPU system, which allows the occupiers to control internet traffic in real time, according to a report by the National Resistance Center.
Blocking of social networks and VPNs
The Russian authorities have blocked Instagram, Facebook, and X, and restricted access to independent media and VPN services.
Providers are making it harder to access these resources, and attempts to bypass the blocks are now strictly monitored.
TSPU system and centralized control
The main mechanism of censorship has become the TSPU system - technical measures to counter threats installed at internet providers.
It allows centralized filtering of all internet traffic, blocking websites in real time without users' knowledge.
Internet as a closed ecosystem
In the occupied territories, the internet has turned into a closed environment where the main sources of information are only Kremlin-controlled resources.
Alternative viewpoints are completely suppressed, and content is filtered before it even reaches users.
Consequences for young people
Young people are particularly affected: they lose access to the global network, educational, and cultural resources.
These are replaced by local propaganda services that distort reality.
Russian' digital fortress
Russians are building a so‑called digital fortress, where the internet is turned into a tool of censorship and total control.
It is an environment of manipulation, devoid of free exchange of ideas, where information flows are completely subordinated to the Russian authorities.
The Russian authorities, with the support of Russian federal structures, are deliberately using schools in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine as part of the military infrastructure.
The Russian authorities in the Kherson region continue to systematically militarize children in the temporarily occupied territories, sending teenagers to military training in Russia: a group of 24 people was taken to Volgograd under the guise of the educational project "Pride of the Nation. Path of Development."
