On the night of September 8, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine. The Odesa and Kyiv regions were the main targets of the attack, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

What Russia launched

According to the Air Force, the attack began on the evening of September 7 and continued overnight. The enemy used Onyx anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M, S-400, and KN-23 ballistic missiles, as well as 32 Kh-101 cruise missiles.

In addition, Russia used 166 Shahed attack drones in the strike, more than half of which were jet-powered, as well as Parodiya decoy drones.

How many targets did air defenses destroy?

As of 8:30 a.m., air defense forces had destroyed or suppressed 175 aerial targets. These included two ballistic missiles, 31 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles, and 142 Shahed, Gerbera, and other types of drones.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

Where the consequences were recorded

Despite the work of air defenses, Russian missiles and attack drones hit 29 locations.

Downed targets and their debris were recorded at nine other locations. At the time of publication, the attack was ongoing, with about ten enemy drones still in Ukrainian airspace.

Two people were killed in the overnight attack on Kyiv, and at least ten others were injured. Both of those killed were residents of the Solomianskyi district, where a missile or its debris hit a residential building and caused a fire.

Eight people injured in the district were between the ages of 22 and 65. They were diagnosed with cuts and shrapnel wounds, as well as injuries to the face, neck, torso and limbs.

Damage and falling debris were recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, Podilskyi, Solomianskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital.
