Ukraine and Russia are not ready for negotiations in the war. Sanctions imposed against the aggressor country cannot be used as a bargaining chip when that eventually happens, states White House advisor John Kirby, according to Ukrinform.

According to him, the imposition of sanctions against Russia was not intended to be a "bargaining chip" that could be taken off the table when Ukraine is ready to negotiate.

"There's no expectation right now that either side is ready to negotiate," he stated.

Kirby also emphasized that the decision to impose additional sanctions was based on forecasts for the external and internal markets in the energy sector.

At the same time, the White House advisor confirmed that large-scale sanctions in this area had previously been postponed to avoid an increase in energy prices in the United States.

Sanctions against Russia

On January 10, the United States imposed sanctions on over 30 Russian oil service companies. At the same time, restrictions were applied to a Serbian company linked to Gazprom Neft.

Additionally, the US State Department imposed sanctions on the CEO of Rosatom, Aleksey Likhachev. Members of the company's board were also subject to the restrictions.

Furthermore, the United Kingdom also introduced sanctions against Russia.
