Russia cannot ensure comprehensive air defense for all major industrial facilities because they are so large, Alexander Shokhin, head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), said.

He noted that many industrial facilities were designed back in Soviet times with the possibility of nuclear war in mind. However, under modern warfare conditions, this infrastructure has proved vulnerable to drone attacks.

He also warned Russians that protecting industrial complexes stretching over several kilometers is extremely difficult. This applies in particular to metallurgical plants, chemical facilities, and other enterprises built to standards that did not account for modern threats.

The RSPP head stressed that, in the Soviet Union, production workshops were located far apart. This approach was intended to preserve at least some production capacity in the event of a nuclear strike.

"We now understand that this is not a bad thing. On the other hand, however, the infrastructure is spread over enormous distances," Shokhin complained.

Notably, Ukrainian strikes target not only Russian oil refineries but also military enterprises, airfields, chemical plants, large data centers, and other facilities.

Last month alone, five oil refineries, including the Moscow oil refinery, suspended processing operations due to damage and fires.

In August, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing the state to take over enterprises and facilities that become targets of drone attacks.

As previously reported, Ukraine's Defense Forces had carried out one of the largest attacks on Moscow.

The media also reported that Ukraine had sent thousands of drones toward the Russian capital and the surrounding region over the previous week.
