Over the past week, Ukrainian forces launched several thousand attack drones toward Moscow and the surrounding region, according to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

Sobyanin claims that between October 10 and 17, Russian air defenses neutralized 2,730 Ukrainian drones heading "toward the Moscow region."

"Most of them were destroyed by air defense forces at long range. A total of 534 drones were neutralized as they approached Moscow," Sobyanin wrote.

He made the statement against the backdrop of another operational collapse at Moscow's major airports linked to drone attacks.

The Moscow mayor also claims that the number of drones shot down while heading toward the city increased every day.

Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry claims that more than 4,500 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian regions in total this week.

On the night of October 10, Russian air defense and electronic warfare forces allegedly neutralized 560 drones. By the end of the same day, they reported intercepting another 78 drones.

In the following days, Russia's Defense Ministry reported shooting down 591 drones on October 11, 184 on October 12, and 674 on October 13.

On the night of October 14, according to the Russian ministry, another 902 drones were intercepted.

On Wednesday, after Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that Ukrainian forces had attacked the Saratov and Ryazan oil refineries, Russia's Defense Ministry reported destroying 91 drones in those regions.

On October 15, Russian authorities announced the interception of 153 drones, followed by another 691 the next day.

On Saturday morning, Russian authorities reported shooting down another 610 Ukrainian drones.

Based on the figures published by Sobyanin, more than half of all Ukrainian drones that Russian authorities reported during this period were heading toward Moscow between October 10 and 17.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that three major Moscow airports had been out of operation for a second consecutive day.

In addition, it was recently reported that Ukraine had carried out one of its largest attacks on the Russian capital.
