Ruginienė becomes Lithuania’s prime minister and will visit Ukraine first

The Lithuanian Seimas has approved Inga Ruginienė's candidacy for the position of new prime minister. She was supported by 78 out of 141 members of parliament, Delfi informs.
During the parliamentary session, 78 deputies voted in favor of Ruginienė’s candidacy, 35 were against, and 14 abstained.
After this, Ruginienė will have to present her cabinet, approved by the president, to the parliament within 15 days at the latest, and submit the government’s program for consideration by the Seimas.
The new government will only assume its powers once the parliament approves the new program.
"Undoubtedly, in terms of foreign policy, the first visits will be to Ukraine and Poland. This is very important," the new prime minister said.
She also did not specify what she would do first in her new role, as she expects to work across various areas.
According to her, the main priority will be approving the government program, developing a detailed action plan, and implementing it as quickly as possible. Before the Seimas vote, she noted that she is ready to cooperate, listen, and take others’ opinions into account.
"My style has always been based on teamwork. I am a team player and I encourage all factions, regardless of their views and opinions, to work together as a team," Ruginienė added.
Resignation of the Lithuanian government
On August 4, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda accepted the resignation of Gintautas Paluckas’ government.
Paluckas had announced his resignation earlier, on July 31. This occurred amid a scandal involving raids at the company Dankora, which was reportedly linked to his family.
