The winner of the first round of Romania's presidential election, George Simion, has already spoken about the expectation of compensation for the Patriot system transferred to Ukraine, Digi24 reports.

Simion said that Bucharest will "no longer give a single cent to another country." He avoided providing a clear answer on whether Romania would vote for new support packages for Ukraine, but emphasized that his position is neutrality and alignment with the policy of US President Donald Trump.

"Ukraine needs us, not the other way around. We want compensation for Romania's involvement in military actions. We don’t know what this compensation will entail, whether it will be reflected in contracts, grain, or other matters. But for the Patriot system given by Klaus Iohannis (former President of Romania - ed.) and other expenses that Romanians have covered out of their own pockets, we should get mutual benefit," he added.

Romanian elections

In the Romanian presidential elections, the best result was achieved by the far-right candidate George Simion. The second place was taken by the former mayor of Bucharest, Nicușor-Daniel Dan, who also advanced to the second round.

Currently, no candidate has managed to secure more than 50% of the votes, so a second round is scheduled.

As noted by historian and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, the results of the presidential elections in Romania could also have an impact on the situation in Ukraine.

Earlier, Romanian presidential candidate George Simion opposed military aid to Ukraine.
