Romania reacts to Russian drone provocations

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu has condemned Russia’s drone provocations on her country’s territory as reckless and vowed to raise the issue at the upcoming UN General Assembly, according to X.
Țoiu recalled that the Romanian Air Force had intercepted a Russian drone that violated the country’s national airspace near the Danube.
“Two F-16s from the 86th Air Base tracked it until it left our airspace without causing any damage or casualties, 50 minutes later, and two allied German Eurofighters were also ready in the air monitoring the situation,” she stated.
Oana-Silvia Țoiu emphasized that people in Romania were never in danger, but such actions by Russia are unacceptable and reckless.
She stressed that Romania condemns Russia’s behavior and is taking the necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security.
“We need to effectively increase the cost of Russia’s blatantly illegal and provocative actions by rapidly adopting the 19th sanction package and the full spectrum of measures under NATO operation “Eastern Sentry,” Țoiu wrote.
She also pledged to raise the issue of Russia’s actions at the UN General Assembly, calling on the international community to strictly enforce sanctions.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, on September 13, Romania’s Air Force intercepted a Russian drone in its national airspace. Two F-16 jets escorted the UAV for about 20 km.
The drone did not fly over populated areas and posed no threat to civilians.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the incident, stressing that Russian forces know exactly where their drones are directed and how long they can remain airborne. According to him, this cannot be a coincidence.
The Ukrainian leader once again urged European countries to impose stronger sanctions against Russia.
