After a recent loss to AC Milan, the club confirmed that Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave immediately. The team has not performed well in the last few matches and was also eliminated from the Coppa Italia.
The club owners thanked Mourinho for his passion and efforts but "an immediate change is needed for the club's benefit."The next match for Roma is against Verona on Saturday.
Mourinho's work at the club
Mourinho had been with Roma for over two years, joining in 2021 after being sacked from Tottenham. Despite a challenging season, he praised the Roma fans and even compared himself to Harry Potter as their coach.
Mourinho, who has coached other top European clubs like FC Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, led Roma to win the Europa Conference League against Feyenoord in 2022 and reach the Europa League final in 2023. It was their first trophy in 11 years and their first European final since 1991.
However, things went downhill in the 2023-24 season. The final straw was a loss to Milan after a tough period where Roma struggled in the Coppa Italia and had only one win in six league matches.
Last week, Mourinho expressed his commitment to the club, stressing his dedication and professionalism. "I've been here for two years and five months and I'm the only person here who hasn't missed a single training session in that time," Mourinho said.
