Rishi Sunak concedes defeat in British general election
The outgoing prime minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat in the general election. The center-left Labour Party has secured a convincing victory, informs CNN.
Labour Party leader Keir Starmer celebrated the victory with his supporters at the Tate Modern art gallery in London.
"Change begins now. And it feels good, I have to be honest," he said.
Sunak said he called Starmer to congratulate him and added that he takes personal responsibility for the devastating defeat.
According to exit polls, Labour is set to win 410 seats, while the Conservatives will only secure 131 seats.
"The Labour Party has won this general election. The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn. And I take responsibility for the loss," said Sunak.
