The Spanish Army has entered into a framework agreement with Rheinmetall for the supply of modular fuel delivery systems for extended-range 155mm artillery munitions, according to Rheinmetall’s press service.

The contract, valued at €205 million, will see deliveries take place from mid-2024 to the end of 2025. Signed in July 2024, the contract includes an option for a two-year extension, which could significantly increase the total value of the order.

Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the Spanish Army is also bolstering its ammunition stocks by purchasing propellant charge systems for M109 and SIAC 155mm howitzers. This deal is among several large orders placed by the Spanish Army this year.

In April 2024, Rheinmetall announced a contract for mortar shells worth several tens of millions of euros. In March 2024, the company secured a €200 million contract for the supply of 155mm artillery munitions, also to be fulfilled by the end of 2025.

Rheinmetall, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-caliber ammunition, continues to play a key role in the modernization and strengthening of Spain’s armed forces. In modern artillery, fuel delivery systems and propellant charges are used to achieve various firing ranges, providing high flexibility and efficiency.

In May, the German company announced the launch of a joint air defense production facility in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that one production line has already commenced operations.

Additionally, this summer, Ukroboronprom and Rheinmetall opened the first workshop for the repair and production of armored vehicles.
