Jim Justice, a representative of the Republican Party in the US, won the Senate election in West Virginia. This shifted the balance of seats in the Senate to 50-50, allowing Republicans to seize control from the Democrats, report PBS News and Politico.

As a result, Republican Jim Justice, the governor of West Virginia, will replace Senator Joe Manchin, who resigned.

With a 50-50 split in votes, the majority is held by the party in power (Democrats), as the Vice President of the US can cast the deciding vote.

The intense electoral battle for the House of Representatives and the Senate will determine which party holds the majority and whether they can enhance or block the president's agenda, or if the White House will face a divided Congress.

Senate campaigns are held alongside the presidential election.

It was also reported that in the California Senate race, Democrat Adam Schiff secured a victory. According to the Associated Press, he easily defeated his Republican opponent, former baseball star Steve Garvey.

Additionally, Democratic Senator John Mannion won against Republican Brandon Williams in New York's 22nd District.

Democratic Congressman Pat Ryan retained his seat in the northern part of New York State.

In New Hampshire, former Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte won, which is considered a significant blow to the Democratic Party.

US election

On November 5, the US held not only the presidential elections but also elections for both chambers of Congress. The composition of Congress is crucial for determining the allocation of aid to Ukraine from the US.

Polls indicated that Republicans have a slight edge over Democrats in controlling the House of Representatives, but the race is very close, nearly 50-50. Additionally, Republicans are expected to win the Senate by a small majority.
