The information suggesting that Russia is allegedly preparing for serial production of a modernized version of the Iskander-M missile system with an increased range is false, Ukraine`s Center for Counteracting Disinformation (CCD) reports.

Serial production of Iskander missiles

According to the Bulgarian Military, the main difference in the modernized version of the Iskander-M missile compared to the previous version is its increased flight range, reaching up to 1,000 kilometers. In particular, the increase in range was allegedly made possible due to an improved engine and an increased solid fuel charge by 10-15%.

Despite retaining structural similarities to the 9M723 missile, it was claimed that the new version of the missile incorporated new guidance systems:

  • An inertial navigation system (INS) with enhanced correction algorithms;
  • Satellite navigation (GLONASS/GPS);
  • TERCOM (Terrain Contour Matching) technology, allowing the missile to use terrain data to bypass air defense systems (ADS);
  • Radar homing during the terminal flight phase;
  • Electronic countermeasure capabilities.

CCD refutes information

The CCD explained that the information from Bulgarian Military is untrue and lacks any real basis. The media resource had previously spread fake news, including claims about Russia's ability to produce 25 Oreshnik missiles per month.

"The Russians use this media resource to disseminate such disinformation to an English-speaking audience, hoping that the information will also spread within our information space," said Andriy Kovalenko, Head of the CCD.

In addition, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russian propaganda recently fabricated a new fake story about mobilization in Ukraine.
