Reports claim Ukraine and Russia may hold talks soon: Kremlin responds

Russia allegedly supports the third round of negotiations with Ukraine. The parties are expected to exchange views on the Ukrainian and Russian memorandums, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"On the Russian side, there are no changes in the negotiating team. We are in favor of holding a third round. As soon as we finally reach an agreement on the dates, we will inform you," Peskov said.
He added that during the next round of dialogue, both memorandums are expected to be discussed, which are currently "absolutely diametrically opposed."
Ukraine-Russia talks
Kyiv and Moscow have held two rounds of talks in recent months. Both meetings took place in Istanbul, Türkiye, the first in May and the second in June of this year.
The Kremlin sent a low-level delegation, headed by Vladimir Medinsky. The Ukrainian side was led by then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
Despite their disagreements, the two sides still managed to reach certain agreements, including the exchange of prisoners and the exchange of bodies.
According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Heorhii Tykhyi, Ukraine has two objectives in its negotiations with Russia:
- resolving humanitarian issues and returning people from captivity;
- not letting anyone accuse Ukraine of being a party that does not want peace.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Rustem Umerov has proposed to Russia to hold a new meeting this week.
