Fighters from the Phoenix unit in the Luhansk region destroyed a mobile radio relay communication station R-416G-MS — equipment that provided digital communication between Russian front-line units and command posts. The strike eliminated a critical communications asset, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

What was destroyed and why it is rare

The R-416G-MS is a mobile radio relay station designed to provide long-range digital communications. It was first recorded in 2018.

The estimated cost of such equipment is around $600,000.

According to open sources, it is a mobile communications station based on a KamAZ truck. It provides digital communication between units at distances of up to 40 kilometers.

Mounted on the roof is a telescopic mast with three parabolic antennas. It is used to transmit signals between command posts and front-line positions. The first prototypes were produced back in 2005, but mass production started later. The Russian army officially adopted the station in 2018.

Technical capabilities:

  • Range: up to 40 km
  • Antenna height: up to 30 meters.

Until now, only one confirmed case of such a station being destroyed had been recorded — in June 2024. This means Ukrainian border guards have destroyed only the second known unit of this type since the start of the full-scale war.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the General Staff announced a series of precise strikes on targets in Crimea and beyond. In particular, Ukrainian forces managed to destroy one of the key elements of Russia’s control system over the Black Sea — a Bastion missile launcher.

Before that, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck strategic Russian energy infrastructure inside Russia, including an oil refinery and an oil terminal used by occupying forces.
