Next week, another meeting of the contact group in the Ramstein format on military assistance to Ukraine will take place in Brussels. The U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown, will attend the meeting, according to the Pentagon press service.

According to the Pentagon, the Ramstein format meeting is planned for October 10.

"Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown will travel to Brussels, Belgium, October 10 to host an in-person meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group," the statement said.

During the Ramstein meeting, which will involve defense ministers and senior military officials from nearly 50 countries, the current situation in Ukraine and the provision of the necessary means for the defense of Ukraine's sovereign territory will be discussed.

Additionally, the head of the Pentagon will participate in a meeting of NATO defense ministers scheduled for October 12 at the Alliance's headquarters.

First Ramstein for General Brown

This will be the first meeting in the Ramstein format in which the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States will participate. Brown succeeded General Mark Milley in this position, who retired at the end of September. Milley has served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs since 2019.

General Brown has command experience in the Pacific region and the Middle East. He also served in Europe when Russia occupied Crimea in 2014. At that time, he was the Director of Operations for Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration for the U.S. Air Force in Europe.
