Putin will have to make concessions in negotiations to end the war, Trump

US President Donald Trump stated during a Cabinet meeting at the White House that the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, will have to make concessions during negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. This is necessary to end the war.
Trump was asked whether Putin would have to make concessions during negotiations to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
"Yes, he will. He will have to," Trump responded.
The American President also shared his opinion about the Kremlin leader, calling Putin "a very smart guy and a very cunning person." He once again emphasized that Putin had no intention of ending the war until he (Trump) returned to the White House.
"If I didn't get elected, he would have just continued to go through Ukraine. A lot of people would have been killed," Trump said.
Later, when Trump was asked what specific concessions Putin should make in peace negotiations, he shifted the topic to Ukraine and NATO.
Ukraine's NATO membership
Trump stated that Ukraine should forget about joining NATO, suggesting that Putin started the war because of Ukraine's desire to become a NATO member.
Previously, Trump had already stated that he considers Ukraine's NATO membership unlikely or impractical.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that if Ukraine does not join NATO, then the Alliance should be present on Ukrainian territory. According to him, an alternative to Ukraine’s NATO membership would be the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine.
