Putin unexpectedly changes stance on security guarantees for Ukraine

A representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, expressed an unexpected position regarding security guarantees for Ukraine, during his interview with Fox News.
Initially, Dmitriev stated that the administration of US President Donald Trump made significant progress in dialogue with Russia. He also mentioned that, previously, the US had been unwilling to understand Russia's position.
"What President Trump's team has done - they understood what a solution space may be and achieved the first discolation ever in the conflict which is stopping hits on energy infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine. So we are having good discussions. Our diplomatic people are also discussing possible outcomes," Dmitriev said.
What Dmitriev says about security guarantees for Ukraine
During his conversation with the journalist, Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, also touched on the topic of security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to him, despite the strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure, the Kremlin might consider the issue of security guarantees for Kyiv. However, he emphasized that Russia is opposed to Ukraine joining NATO.
"Ukraine joining NATO as our President (Vladimir Putin - ed.) said is not at all possible and that I think has been widely accepted including by the Trump administration. But you know some security guarantees in some form may be acceptable," Dmitriev explained.
It is interesting that this rhetoric from Putin's envoy differs somewhat from the usual statements of the Russian authorities. Previously, Russia was opposed to any security guarantees for Ukraine.
