Putin threatens 'reciprocal measures' if US deploys missiles in Germany
Russia has threatened the United States over plans to deploy American long-range missiles in Germany. Moscow promises "reciprocal measures," Russian dictator Vladimir Putin stated at the Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg.
Putin stated that important Russian state and military command facilities would be within the reach of the American missiles, which could potentially be equipped with nuclear warheads, with a flight time of about 10 minutes.
"In the event the United States implements such plans, we will consider ourselves free from the unilateral moratorium previously undertaken on the deployment of intermediate and shorter-range strike systems, including the enhancement of our coastal forces' capabilities within our navy," said the dictator.
Moreover, he claims that developing several intermediate and shorter-range strike systems is in its final stage.
"We will take reciprocal measures regarding the deployment of such systems, considering the actions of the US and their satellites in Europe and other regions of the world," Putin stated.
Missile deployment in Germany
Earlier, the White House announced that in 2026 the U.S. will begin deploying long-range strike systems, including hypersonic weapons, in Germany. Specifically, this includes SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock supported the US plans. She stated that Putin is constantly expanding his arsenal, threatening Europe. According to her, Germany can protect itself and its Baltic partners in this way.
