Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Russian President Vladimir Putin told Chinese leader Xi Jinping that he is ready to begin peace talks without preconditions, informs Xinhua.

From May 7 to 10, Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Russia. At the end of the trip, Foreign Minister Wang Yi shared details of the visit.

Wang noted that this marked Xi Jinping's 11th visit to Russia since becoming President of the People's Republic of China.

Putin and Xi discuss Ukraine

According to Wang, President Xi said that when it comes to the war in Ukraine, China welcomes all efforts aimed at achieving peace.

He stressed that China supports a global security framework that is joint, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable. He said it is essential to address the legitimate security concerns of all countries and eliminate the root causes of crises.

"Vladimir Putin highly appreciated China's objective and impartial position on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, stating that Russia is willing to engage in peace talks without preconditions and hopes to reach a just and durable peace deal," China's top diplomat said.

Putin-Xi meeting

As a reminder, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Russia for a four-day trip. Xi and the Russian president met in Moscow on May 8. On that day, they issued several public statements.

Earlier, the media learned about one of the topics of the talks between Putin and Xi Jinping, which did not concern Ukraine.

Bloomberg previously reported that during this visit, Xi Jinping called on Putin for the first time to pursue a fair peace deal regarding Ukraine.
