Putin's envoy claims US, Ukraine, and Russia are reportedly "close to a diplomatic solution" to the war, according to Reuters.

Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on investment and economic cooperation, stated that, in his view, his country, the United States, and Ukraine are close to a diplomatic solution to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

In an interview with CNN after arriving in Washington for talks with US officials, Dmitriev said that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Putin had not been canceled, as described by the US president.

He noted that both leaders are likely to meet at a later date.

It is worth noting that the planned summit was postponed on Tuesday, as Russia's refusal to immediately implement a ceasefire overshadowed the attempts at negotiations.

Trump said he canceled the planned meeting with Putin in Budapest due to the lack of progress in diplomatic efforts to end the war and the feeling that the timing was not right.

Yesterday, Dmitriev stated that the countries are close to a diplomatic resolution.

"I believe that Russia, the US, and Ukraine are actually quite close to a diplomatic solution," he said.

Shift in Trump's rhetoric

Last week, the US president announced a potential meeting with the Russian dictator in Hungary to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported Russia's refusal of a ceasefire.

Following this, Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies.

Additionally, the US president canceled the expected meeting with Putin, explaining that he would not negotiate with the dictator because he was confident that the desired result could not be achieved.

On October 24, Moscow sent its special envoy Kirill Dmitriev to the US to "discuss US–Russia relations."
