Dmitriev's meeting with envoys of the US president took place against the backdrop of diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow.
Sources familiar with the situation told CNN that one of the topics of discussion was a peaceful resolution to the Russian-Ukrainian war. The parties also discussed further cooperation between the US and Russia.
According to the sources, Dmitriev was in New York to continue contacts between the two countries and efforts aimed at finding a solution to end the war. These talks followed a meeting between Vladimir Putin and US envoys in early September.
Other talks
On September 23, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also met in New York. They discussed the Russia-Ukraine war.
Thus, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, a series of meetings continued between US and Russian envoys focused on the war in Ukraine and bilateral relations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and the US planned to resume negotiations in about 10 days. According to him, before then, the parties intend to hold consultations with European partners and Russia.
