Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev has called US President Donald Trump’s address to the Ukrainian people "historic" and "landmark," according to RIA Novosti.
Putin’s special envoy acknowledged that Kremlin officials welcomed the US president's call for Ukrainians to elect a new president to replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"President Trump has joined the many who believe that Ukraine needs leadership that truly seeks peace rather than fueling the war, as Zelenskyy does. 'I suggest Ukraine get a new leader.' Landmark and historic," Dmitriev said.
Trump explained his call for Zelenskyy's replacement by saying that the Ukrainian leader did not want to end the war with Russia or reach agreements.
"I suggest Ukraine get a new leader, who can make a deal... Because he (Zelenskyy – ed.) could make many deals, but for some reason, he never does," the US president told reporters.
