Putin rejects ceasefire, proposes alternative deal – Axios journalist

Russian leader Vladimir Putin, during negotiations with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, did not support the proposal for a ceasefire, proposing instead to sign a comprehensive agreement on ending the war, according to the Axios journalist Barak Ravid on X.
"President Trump told Zelensky and NATO leaders that Putin doesn't want a ceasefire and prefers a comprehensive agreement to end the war," reported the Axios journalist.
According to the source, during the conversation with Zelenskyy, Trump also stated that a swift signing of a peace agreement is preferable to a ceasefire.
Conversation between Trump and Zelenskyy after the summit in Alaska
Trump held a telephone call with Zelenskyy and European leaders this morning, August 16. It is known that in the conversation participated the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, and the Prime Minister of Britain, Keir Starmer.
Also joining the conversation were NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff.
According to Zelenskyy, the conversation was substantive, first one-on-one, and then with the participation of European leaders. The President of Ukraine also reported that the details of ending the war and killings he will discuss with Trump during a meeting in Washington, already this Monday.
