Abu Dhabi talks
On January 23–24, a two-day trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi to discuss ending the war. The first round was largely introductory, after which the parties continued in an expanded format, splitting into political and military subgroups.
The most progress was recorded on military issues, with discussions focusing on potential force withdrawals, mechanisms to monitor a ceasefire, and the creation of a coordination center.
All parties agreed to prepare proposals for a ceasefire before the next meeting, while territorial issues remained unresolved.
According to reports, Russia insists on sharing electricity from the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
The next round is scheduled for February 1 in Abu Dhabi. US officials have not ruled out a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sources also note that the Kremlin disagreed with the US assessment that control over the Donetsk region is the only unresolved issue in the peace talks.
