Russian leader Vladimir Putin has raised sharply the one-time payment to Russian residents and foreigners for signing a contract with the Russian military ministry to be sent to war against Ukraine. The payment will increase to 400 thousand rubles (about $4.6 thousand), according to the Russian legal information portal.

Until now, the payment amounted to 195 thousand rubles.

Only those who sign a contract from August 1 to December 31, 2024, can count on the new amount. Putin also recommended that the regions pay at least 400 thousand rubles to Russians who decide to go to war.

According to the Moscow Times, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 50 Russian regions have introduced payments for joining the contract service to replenish the ranks of the army, which, according to Western intelligence, has lost more than 500,000 people in Ukraine in killed and wounded. The average amount of remuneration has increased 15 times in two years.

The Moscow government has established “social support measures” of 1.9 million rubles for those who will go to war in Ukraine from July 23. In Tatarstan, the one-time payment has been increased by half a million to 1.5 million rubles. This money is available to people who signed a contract before July 31.

According to British intelligence, Russia lost more than 70,000 personnel killed and wounded in May and June alone. Russia is recruiting 25,000 to 30,000 new soldiers every month, roughly the same number as it is losing.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Russian grouping in Ukraine amounts to 520,000 troops. Moscow intends to increase the number to 690,000.
