Russian leader Vladimir Putin could order his troops to invade NATO territory within the next few years, stated Major General Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Chief of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Directorate, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
“At this point, we consider so-called asymmetric threats — hybrid operations — to be the most realistic. Since the spring, Alliance countries have been dealing with unidentified drones. Romania and Poland have now at least begun shooting down these targets. At the same time, narratives aimed at discrediting "NATO" weapons are spreading in the information space,” Skibitskyi stressed.
According to him, the influence that pro-Russian political forces and public organizations are gaining in the West also cannot be ignored.
The Ukrainian intelligence official noted that these are precisely the hybrid measures that the enemy regularly carries out.
As Skibitskyi explained, all these Russian actions can be considered one of the indicators of preparations for a new conflict.
“Russia's plans envisage preparing for a war with NATO countries by 2030. The Alliance has also openly said that by 2030, Russia will be capable of carrying out more active military operations against NATO member states,” the major general said.
Skibitskyi pointed out that the bloc is taking such a threat very seriously, considers it entirely realistic, and is preparing for the worst-case scenario.
NATO members are currently not only adjusting their defense budgets but also actively conducting combat training and expanding defense-industry production.
By the way, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Directorate previously explained whether Putin could launch another mobilization in Russia and what to expect.
