Thus, Progressive Bulgaria is forming a single-party majority, preliminarily securing 131 seats, while 121 are needed for a majority. GERB and the PP-DB coalition will each have 39 seats, while DPS and “Vazrazhdane” will hold 18 and 13 seats, respectively.
Elections in Bulgaria
The April 19 vote marked Bulgaria’s eighth election since 2021. Citizens elected 240 members of parliament across 31 multi-member constituencies. The election process was organized by a caretaker government led by Andrey Gyurov.
The official results will determine the composition of the new parliament, which will be responsible for forming the government and adopting the state budget.
As previously reported, Rumen Radev has emerged as a leading figure of public support and is often compared to Viktor Orbán due to his rhetoric and openness to contacts with the Kremlin.
His potential influence on the government could create additional obstacles for supporting Ukraine within the EU and NATO.
