Prigozhin's plane possibly shot down by surface-to-air missile: Reuters reports
In the United States, it is believed that the plane crash in which the leader of the Wagner Private Military Company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was killed, could have been caused by a strike from a surface-to-air missile, according to Reuters.
According to the article, two American officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, it is likely that the plane with Prigozhin was downed by a surface-to-air missile launched from Russian territory.
"The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter, stressed that the information was still preliminary and under review," Reuters adds.
Prigozhin's plane crash
Yesterday, on August 23, an airplane crash occurred in the Tver region of the Russian Federation, resulting in the death of 10 people. Later, according to The Federal Air Transport Agency, among the passengers was the head of the Wagner Private Military Company, Yevgeny Prigozhin. However, the official confirmation of the death of the "mercenary" leader has not been provided.
According to experts, it is likely that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin or the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov could be involved in the elimination of Prigozhin. The first had previously stated that he would never be able to forgive betrayal. The latter two could have eliminated Prigozhin as a public demonstration of their power.
More details about the elimination of the Wagner PMC leader can be found in the material by RBC-Ukraine.
