The President of South Korea has been impeached. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has now undertaken presidential duties, informs The Guardian.

The source notes that Han Duck-soo has already ordered the military to strengthen its defense capabilities. This step should prevent provocations by North Korea due to miscalculations.

Duck-soo also asked the foreign minister to inform other countries that South Korea's basic foreign policy remains unchanged, and the finance minister to work to minimize the potential negative effects on the economy from political turmoil.

Executive power in South Korea is concentrated in the hands of the president, but the prime minister takes over the country if the president becomes incapacitated.

Han Duck-soo previously held several high government positions, such as Minister of Trade and Finance, and was Ambassador to the United States. In addition, he served as prime minister from 2007 to 2008.

South Korea decides to impeach the president

On December 3, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in the country. It was in effect for about six hours, after which the president apologized for the decision.

However, the police recently searched the president's office. They were part of an investigation initiated by local law enforcement.

Today, President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached.
