President of Moldova announces bid for second term
The incumbent President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has officially announced her candidacy for a second term. The elections are scheduled for October 20, NewsMaker informs.
"In 2024, we will make the most important decision for the country since independence. We will determine our foreign course in a referendum. I am confident that our people will choose peace and freedom. Also in 2024, we will choose a president. My program is clear: better living conditions and mutual understanding," said Sandu.
As the news agency notes, she will run from her party, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), but her logo does not mention the party. The candidate's slogan is "Maia Sandu for Moldova."
According to NewsMaker, Maia Sandu's initiative group now needs to be registered by the Central Electoral Commission. After that, they will need to collect at least 15,000 and no more than 25,000 signatures in at least half of the administrative-territorial units. Only after this can the CEC officially register Sandu as a candidate.
