Ukraine discussed further peace efforts with key partners, as well as sanctions and other measures that could be taken if Russia continues to reject a ceasefire, states Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Twitter (X).

"Building on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's previous contacts, I had a constructive collective call with my colleagues from France, Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union," Sybiha said.

He noted that it was important to begin this decisive week with a substantive discussion in such a format about the next steps in advancing peace.

"I informed colleagues that, according to our military command data, Russia is currently ignoring our ceasefire offer and continuing to attack all along the frontline," the foreign minister stated.

He also emphasized that Ukraine remains fully committed to peace efforts, and all of Ukraine’s actions demonstrate a constructive approach.

"We coordinated further peace efforts in the coming days, as well as sanctions and other steps that can be taken if Russia continues to reject the ceasefire and peace efforts," the minister added.

Ceasefire proposal

On May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the proposal for a ceasefire. At the same time, he suggested resuming direct negotiations with Ukraine and proposed holding a meeting on May 15 in Istanbul.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready for dialogue, but emphasized that a confirmed ceasefire, set to begin on May 12, is a necessary condition.

Meanwhile, Türkiye officially declared its readiness to act as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
