A powerful storm in the US has left hundreds of thousands of homes without power. The storm claimed the lives of nearly 20 people, informs NBC News.

The strong storm system hit the Midwest and South of the US, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. In Missouri, the storm claimed at least 11 lives and more than 316,000 consumers were left without power.

In Arkansas, three people have been confirmed dead, while 29 others were injured by the overnight weather strike. In Texas, in the Amarillo area, four people lost their lives. In Oklahoma, one person died after being caught in smoke from wildfires.

According to meteorologists, severe weather is threatening 138 million Americans. Tornado warnings have already been issued for:

  • Illinois;
  • Missouri;
  • Arkansas;
  • Mississippi;
  • Indiana;
  • Kentucky.

Overall, NBC News reports that at least 19 people have died, and dozens more have been injured.

As a reminder, last fall, Hurricane Helene hit the Florida coast, becoming one of the largest hurricanes in US history.

The hurricane began on September 26 after 11 PM US time. The Big Bend area of Florida was the first to be struck.

Additionally, on the night of October 10, the powerful Hurricane Milton reached Florida, causing tornadoes, flooding, and inundation. There are reports of casualties due to the storm.
