A series of explosions rocked Kyiv early on April 6 amid a missile threat as Russian forces launched ballistic missiles in another attack, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Around 05:00 AM, the military warned of a threat of ballistic missile use by the enemy in regions where air raid alerts had been declared.

At that time, the alert was active both in the capital and across the entire country.

“High-speed threat in Kyiv region! Kyiv – take cover!” reported the Air Force.

Shortly after, a powerful explosion was heard in Kyiv, followed by several more blasts. They were described as quite strong.

“An air-raid alert has been declared in Kyiv due to the threat of ballistic missiles. Ensure your safety: immediately proceed to shelters and remain there until the all-clear,” the Kyiv City Military Administration announced.

Later, the administration added that air defense forces were working to neutralize the threat in Kyiv’s airspace.

“Stay in shelters until the official all-clear signal is given. Follow all safety instructions,” KCMA urged.

The military reported repeated missile launches and asked residents to remain in shelters until the alert was over.

Another loud explosion was heard in the capital later.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko also reported that air defense was active over the city.

“A medical team is on the way. The missile attack on Kyiv continues. Stay in shelters!” the mayor warned.

Later, he added that medics were also dispatched to the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv.

According to KCMA head Tymur Tkachenko, fires broke out in both the Darnytskyi and Obolonskyi districts as a result of the shelling in Kyiv.

“Rescue workers are on their way. Information about damage and casualties is being clarified,” he added.

As reported by the mayor, preliminary data indicates the fall of debris in two locations in the Obolon district of Kyiv, specifically in areas with non-residential buildings.

"Emergency services are heading to the sites," he said.

Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with drones and missiles

On the night of April 6, Russian forces launched strike drones toward Ukraine, prompting air raid alerts in multiple regions. Explosions and air defense activity were reported during the UAV attacks in several areas.

For instance, in Mykolaiv, explosions were heard amid a drone strike in the evening. The city came under attack by Russian drones. As a result of the Shahed strike, fires broke out in two residential buildings, and damage was reported in private housing areas. Local authorities and the regional administration confirmed that three women were injured.
