Power outages begin in Russia and Crimea due to major failure at Rostov NPP
A major malfunction occurred at the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant in Russia. Power outages have already started in several populated areas and also affected occupied Crimea, reports the Russian Ministry of Energy.
"In the energy system of southern Russia, due to a malfunction in the generating equipment at the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant and under conditions of increased loads on the power system, temporary consumption restriction schedules of 1.5 GW have been introduced to maintain the stability of the power system," the ministry stated.
According to their data, the power unit was allegedly shut down automatically due to malfunctions in the turbogenerator. The Rostov Nuclear Power Plant consists of four power units. It is the largest station in southern Russia, with a capacity of 4 GW. The station provides about 75% of the electricity production in the Rostov region.
At the same time, Russian media claim that about a million consumers in the Rostov, Krasnodar, and Volgograd regions are without power.
In addition, the head of the occupation administration in Crimea, Mikhail Razvozhaev, stated that power outage schedules are also being introduced on the peninsula. This is also related to the malfunction at the nuclear power plant and the increased electricity consumption due to the abnormal heat.
The power outages will affect the following cities in Crimea: Yalta, Alushta, Feodosia, Sudak, Kerch, as well as villages and settlements in the Bakhchisarai and Simferopol regions: Levitanovka, Grishino, Kalinino, Frunze, Novoselivske, Myrnyi, Popovka, Shtormove, Kutove, Pishchane, Berehove, Bilokamiane, Turhenivka, Dachne, Kholmivka, Tankove, Perevalne, Chervonolissya, Marmurove, Zarichne, Dobre, Pionerske, Andrusove, Voykove, Yaskrave Pole, Synytsyne, Krasnivka, Vasylkove, Zhelyabivka, Vesele.
It is worth noting that the Russians traditionally complained that on the night of July 16, there was a fire at a factory in the Kursk region due to a drone attack.
