The funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. local time, Reuters reports.
The funeral of Pope Francis will be held in St. Peter's Basilica.
The Vatican also released photos of the pontiff in the coffin. Before the funeral, his body will also lie in St. Peter's Basilica for a public farewell.
The Vatican said that the body of the late Pope will be transferred to St. Peter's Basilica tomorrow.
It will be brought there from the chapel of the Santa Marta residence, shown in the previous photos.
Pope's death
Yesterday morning, April 21, Pope Francis died.
"Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Santa Marta House," the Vatican said.
In the evening, the Vatican announced the official cause of the pontiff's death - Francis had a stroke, after which he fell into a coma and died.
US President Donald Trump plans to attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome.
RBC-Ukraine sources also reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may attend the funeral of Pope Francis.
"The Presidential Administration is awaiting the date of the Pope's burial and is preparing the President's visit to Rome to say goodbye to the pontiff," the source told RBC-Ukraine.
A large number of different world leaders may come to the Pope's funeral. These visits could create a potential space for summit meetings.
Pope Francis has condemned the war in Ukraine and called for peace, compassion, and support for the victims.
