Pope Leo XIV is ready to visit Ukraine, though security concerns pose challenges. However, the Vatican has already developed an organizational plan that would allow the visit to take place, according to ANSA.
"I hope it happens (the visit to Ukraine), but I don't know when. In matters like this, one must be realistic," the Pope told journalists following his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Pope Leo XIV once again expressed his wish to do everything possible to achieve a "just and lasting peace."
He also urged Italian diplomats to contribute to these efforts.
"To safeguard and promote true peace, you must be people of dialogue, wise in interpreting the signs of the times according to the code of Christian humanism that underpins Italian and European culture," the Pope said.
Meeting between Zelenskyy and the Pope
As a reminder, on December 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Rome on an official trip.
During the visit, he had a private 30-minute audience with Pope Leo XIV at the papal residence in Castel Gandolfo.
After the official meeting, Zelenskyy and the Pope appeared on the balcony of the residence, greeting journalists, but did not make any statements to the press.
Following the meeting, Pope Leo XIV called for a just peace in Ukraine.
