Pope Leo hopes for peace in Ukraine after Witkoff and Kushner visits

After Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Kyiv and Moscow, there is hope for peace in Ukraine as soon as possible, Pope Leo XIV said.
He again called for an end to the fighting and expressed hope that the visits would revive negotiations on a process that would bring concrete results.
"My heart is united with the suffering of the people of Ukraine, who have lived in anguish and fear for years. I renew my appeal to put an end to the violence, halt the destruction, and open hearts to dialogue and peace! I hope that the efforts undertaken in recent days to resume negotiations will bear concrete fruit and make room for diplomacy," Pope Leo said.
What preceded this
Last Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6, Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv to resume peace talks and put an end to Russia's war against Ukraine.
In particular, on September 5, the US delegation met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Afterward, media reports said that the parties discussed plans for further steps that would be announced in the coming weeks.
On September 6, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kyiv, where three rounds of talks were held with Ukraine and European partners. The parties discussed further diplomatic steps and the conditions for establishing a just peace.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that after the talks in Kyiv, representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Europe agreed to meet again to continue the dialogue.
