Polls show opposition in Georgia significantly ahead of pro-Russian party
Georgian opposition parties could collectively secure more than half of the votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections, while the pro-Russian Georgian Dream lags significantly behind, according to a poll by Edison Research.
As the poll shows, the Georgian Dream party would receive 34% of the vote if the elections were held now.
At the same time, opposition parties show the following results:
- The pro-European Unity bloc, which includes former President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement – 18%;
- Coalition for Change – 14%;
- Gakharia – For Georgia – 11%;
- Strong Georgia bloc – 10%.
In total, the opposition has 53% of the votes. All the mentioned parties surpass the 5% electoral threshold.
It is worth noting that the parliamentary elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 26.
Scandal involving Georgian Dream
The Georgian Dream party caused controversy with its election advertising.
They displayed banners across the country comparing images of the aftermath of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine with peaceful life in Georgia.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sharply condemned this scandal advertisement.
